Nintendo announced has announced that dedicated Mario Kart World Nintendo Direct will air on April 17 at 6:00 AM PDT / 9:00 AM EDT. Mario Kart World will be available as a new Nintendo Switch 2 launch title, featuring free roam, Knock Out races, and many new features.
Mario Kart World will feature 24-player multiplayer, an open-world environment, several new characters, and more. It will also feature support for the new C-button, which will allow players to chat with each other. Check out the first trailer for Mario Kart World below:
Nintendo also confirmed that, on April 3 and 4, it will hold a Nintendo Treehouse: Live event dedicated to the Switch 2. It will be held at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET and will feature hands-on gameplay of several Nintendo Switch 2 games.
Recently, Nintendo aired a Direct focused entirely on games for the original Nintendo Switch. The Direct featured new footage for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and also had announcements for games in 2026, such as Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Rhythm Heaven: Groove. These games will also be available for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo initially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 via a “first-look trailer” on January 16. The trailer showcases the original Switch before transforming into the new hardware. As previous rumors implied, the console has a new stand, new magnetic joycons, a mysterious new button, and a new dock and handheld base.
Lastly, Mario Kart World will get a dedicated direct on April 17. The game will release on June 5. Additionally, it has been revealed that Nintendo plans to charge $79.99 for the digital version. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be available on June 5 for $450 USD. A bundle including Mario Kart World will be available at launch for $500. Pre-orders will go live on April 9.
