Capcom released a new developer message video for Onimusha: Way of the Sword featuring producer Akihito Kadowaki and director Satoru Nihei. The two developers revealed new details about the new title, which releases in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Set in feudal Japan amidst the historic landmarks of Kyoto, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Onimusha: Way of the Sword follows the story of a new protagonist wielding the Oni Gauntlet against the demonic Genma. The new samurai action game emphasizes the satisfaction of slicing through enemies and rewards making strategic decisions when absorbing their souls in the heat of battle.

During today’s Capcom Spotlight, Capcom also revealed that a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam later this year. As of now, only Onimusha: Warlords, the first game in the series, is available to play on modern platforms. With the announcement of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny arriving later this year, it’s possible Capcom could also release an updated version of Onimusha 3: Demon Siege before Way of the Sword arrives next year.
