In The Apothecary Diaries episode 27, Jinshi ordered Maomao to investigate mushrooms growing in a forest near the palace. Maomao quickly discovered that these mushrooms emanate the same smell Shisui pointed out earlier in the season. Jinshi was suspicious of the order ladies in waiting that once served the concubine, so this task allowed Maomao to investigate for him without suspicion. She discovers that mushrooms capable of eroding skin seemingly lead Concubine Son, Jin’s rival, in a vengeful rage.
However, this is only one side of the story. After getting approval to investigate further with eunuchs as backup, Maomao discovers that the forest’s mushrooms grew on top of Concubine Jin’s corpse, which was buried for about a year. The real Jin was killed by Tao, another lady serving the concubine. Tao conspired with the other ladies to cover up the incident, but she too became a victim of the mushrooms, leading her to poison herself to death.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Episode 28 Release Date and Time
The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 episode 28 premieres on Friday, January 31 at 9:15 a.m. PST / 12:15 p.m. EST on Crunchyroll. The new episode is titled “Mirrors” and it will stream with English subs first, followed by the English dub at a later date. 12 to 13 episodes will release in the first cour of Season 2.
