Higurashi: When They Cry Mei launched in September 2020 for iOS and Android in Japan. It featured an original story, with series creator Ryukishi07 credited for his cooperation on the game.
Smileaxe developed the game, and D-techno handled planning for it. Kiichi Kanou was the scripter writer, Tales of composer Motoi Sakuraba composed the game’s battle music, and Ayane performed the theme song “Frustration.”
One of the latest releases in the series is Higurashi Origin, an upgraded version of Higurashi: When They Cry with new features and adjustments for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The visual novel includes an “Origin” reading mode, sprite switching, the Mehagashi chapter from Higurashi: When They Cry Hou+ with new voice acting and sprites, and more. Lines for the visual novel have been recorded for the new Origin reading mode, allowing for a more cohesive experience.
Ryukishi07 is currently working on Silent Hill f, a brand-new game developed by Neobards Entertainment (Resident Evil Re:Verse). The game features a completely new story set in 1960’s Japan. A release date and platforms for Silent Hill f were not announced, however.
Moreover, Ryukishi07 announced that a new manga series titled Koppa Maichiru Sono Koro ni (When the Wood Chips Scatter) will be serialized on Akita Publishing’s Young Champion Web platform. Serialization will begin on January 31.
