In a new interview with IGN Brasil, Yoshinori Kitase revealed that Square Enix is satisfied with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth “meeting a certain number of sales.” While there has not been any official reveal of copies sold, this is a good sign that the game did sell in line with what Square Enix expected. You can read Yoshinori Kitase’s full quote below, translated by Final Weapon Staff Writer RyujiBlades:
“While we are satisifed that we’re meeting a certain number of sales, with the current modernization state of games, we cannot be exclusive to a single platform. I think we need to [be able to] offer the game to as many players as we can.”
With this mention of not being exclusive to a single platform, it’s possible that Square Enix will look to put the third and final FFVII Remake title on platforms past PlayStation 5. Recently, it was revealed at The Game Awards 2024 that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will release on PC on January 23, 2025. Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed recently that he did consider making DLC for the PC release, but he ultimately decided to prioritize a quick release date.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available now for PlayStation 5. Be sure to check out our 5/5 review of the game, where we stated, “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a generational RPG that exemplifies everything there is to love about the medium.”
