SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio revealed new details about Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, including the game’s story, cast, combat, and much more. As previously announced, the game takes place six months after Goro Majima fights alongside Kazuma Kiryu at the Millennium Tower in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Goro Majima (VA: Hidenari Ugaki) washes up on an island beach without his memories, including his own name. A young but sickly islander, Noah Rich (VA: First Summer Uika), saves his life, and Majima is able to deal with nearby pirates and steal their ship. He vows to repay Noah and goes on a high-seas adventure in order to regain his memories. Captain Majima and his crew will also hear rumors of a legendary treasure around the outlaw paradise called Madlantis.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Supporting Characters
Jason Rich (VA: Kenji Matsuda), Noah’s father, is the bar owner on Rich Island. He’s a former treasure hunter and at heart, a true sea dog. He’s rarely sober during the day, but it appears that he will still play a vital role in the story. The face of the bar, Moana Rich (VA: Reina Ueda), works diligently and gets along well with Noah
Majima will also be supported by witty bodyguard and chef Masaru Fujita (VA: Ryuji Akiyama), former Tojo Clan patriarch Teruhiko Shigaki (VA: Munetaka Aoki), and Noah’s little tiger (?) friend Goro (VA: Kazuhiro Nakaya).
Majima and Noah will also meet characters in Honolulu and the surrounding locations, including Nele Island. Rodriguez (VA: Ayumi Tanida) is a Palekana elite disciple known as a Haku, tasked to deal with the nuclear waste cleanup. Some of the adversaries that Majima and the crew will meet include Pirates’ Coliseum champion Mortimer (VA: Shunsuke Daitoh), the Ruler of Madlantis Queen Michele (VA: Romi Park), Michele’s bodyguard Naomi Rich, and the Pirate King Raymond Law and manager of Madlantis (VA: Miou Tanaka).
Combat and Adventures
Majima’s ship, the Goromaru, will sail the vast ocean, and players can discover lighthouses, treasure islands, and other locations. Players must have their cannons ready, as enemy ships may attempt to bombard the Goromaru. You may unleash returning cannonfire on these enemy ships and board their ship to secure victory.
The Goromaru may be modified and improved to deal more damage and defend against enemy attacks. You can also decorate the ship with different designs to your liking. There are over 100 recruitable seafarers, so Majima has a lot of crewmates to potentially take care of.
Rich Island is the place where Majima washed ashore and fortunately, the Rich family resides here. It’s mostly inhabited by fishermen, and boats from Honolulu only stop every few months.
Further into the Pacific Ocean lies the secret island of Madlantis, where multiple criminal organizations coexist. It is home to the Pirates’ Coliseum, and those scouted by Queen Michele may enter her audience chamber. Led by Michele and Law, The Pirate Lords are a crime syndicate that runs Madlantis.
Due to the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Nele Island is now full of ex-yakuza volunteers who are taking care of waste disposal. These efforts are led by Shigaki and among the members are ex-Majima Family members Minami and Nishida. Players can also revisit Honolulu and head to the the bar called Revolve to learn more about the state.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii launches on February 21, 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
