Nippon Ichi Software revealed new details about upcoming turn-based strategy RPG Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, including additional characters and gameplay features like Protection and O.B.
In Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, Marona can join forces with various characters from the islands of Ivoire. These characters include the beastman Rouen, the former queen Henna, the young boy Urumi, and pirate leader Mayfair.
Marona Meets Many Characters in Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero
Rouen is a sarcastic beastman who was the first mate of the Argento Pirate Crew and the right-hand man of the fleet’s leader, who is Apricot’s father. He’s kind, despite his nihilistic act, and he calls Apricot “Princess” as her father figure of sorts. He died five years before the start of the game after encountering the Shipwreck Fleet.
Henna is a former Queen of the Hasara Kingdom, an island containing roughly 70% sand. When she was young, she made bad political decisions and lost her life in a coup d’etat. As a result, she appears as a Phantom, just like Rouen. She opposes her younger sister, the current queen.
Urumi is a young boy from Snowfall Island that died many years ago. After dying and becoming a Phantom, he gained the ability to manifest himself and control the climate around him. He’s feared by the island’s inhabitants for making the climate worse.
Mayfair is the “big sister-like leader of a certain pirate group.” She appears when Marona and her allies visit Versailles, an island that’s closed off to outsiders. Mayfair protects the island from poachers.
Gameplay Systems – Protection and O.B.
There are many unique gameplay systems in Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, including Protection and O.B. Players may also improvise and equip items. Firstly, Protection is a special ability that certain characters or items on the map can use. It is indicated by a line that represents the ability to link.
By using Protection, special effects may be enabled when attacking, such as increased attack power, a defense debuff, increasing aggro, and much more. These effects may be seen by hoving over a character on the map. Destroying the item or character that grants the Protection ability will cause its effect to disappear. Moreover, using the Confine ability with anything that’s causing the Protection ability to activate will also gain that Protection. It’s worth noting that there are areas on maps that can prevent the entry from characters using Protection.
When a character or item falls off the map, it’s considered “O.B.” Characters who experience O.B. will receive damage, including enemies, and items thrown off the map will simply disappear. As a result, O.B. can be useful when fighting enemies stronger than you. It’s worth noting that falling off the map from your own actions will not count as O.B., so damage will not be sustained.
All items can be equipped in the game, including trees, flowers, and enemies. These items may be equipped by “lifting” them. Equip items also have skills and abilities that characters can take advantage of, and it will shield a portion of damage until its HP hits zero. After meeting certain conditions, these skills and abilities may be learned permanently.
Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero launches in 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The PC (Steam) version will launch after the console versions.
