Before the global launch of The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure, Final Weapon had the opportunity to conduct an email interview with Executive Project Director Eui-jong Lee from Netmarble.
In Final Weapon’s interview, Eui-jong Lee revealed insight into the development of The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure, including the director’s approach and goals for the project, elements that were carried over from The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross, and much more.
As the Executive Project Director of The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure, what does your role entail for the game’s development?
Eui-jong Lee: I am in charge of overall game production, and I’m also partly involved in the optimization and in-house tool production due to my previous experience as a technical director.
As the technical director of The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross, what were your initial expectations for leading development of The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure?
Eui-jong Lee: I wanted the game to be easily accessible to players and keep the charm of the original The Seven Deadly Sins series. Though the IP itself is the same, as the Executive Project Director, I paid careful attention to give The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure its own, distinct charm that is different from The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross. I hope the new title will satisfy both fans of The Seven Deadly Sins and new players.
What were some of the goals that you and the development team had in mind when adapting The Seven Deadly Sins into a casual RPG?
Eui-jong Lee: I would say the goal of the development team is to come up with a fun and enjoyable game that is differentiated from others, while not disappointing players devoted to The Seven Deadly Sins IP.
Did the development team face any challenges while developing The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure?
Eui-jong Lee: There are multiple games based on the manga The Seven Deadly Sins in multiple genres. What my team and I gave the most thought to was, “How can The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure give users something new and fun that is not cliche?” It was also difficult to adapt all the intrinsic characteristics and personality of each character from The Seven Deadly Sins into the game’s chibi style.
The skill synthesis combat system from The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross was referenced to create the One-Tap Draw system in The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure. Were there any other elements that influenced the development of gameplay systems found in IDLE Adventure?
Eui-jong Lee: There are several growth systems for The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure that are inspired by The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross. We’re working on them now, but these systems have not yet been revealed to the public yet due to the update schedule. We aren’t able to share additional information on these systems, other than the One-Tap Draw, at this time.
The chibi character designs for The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure are a contrast from those found in Grand Cross. What inspired the development team to create these new character designs for the idle RPG?
Eui-jong Lee: Netmarble previously showcased The Seven Deadly Sins characters in 1:1 scale for The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross. We wanted to offer something new, and that is how we decided to adopt a chibi style character proportion for The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure, presenting cute graphics for the characters.
What can players expect from post-launch updates for The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure?
Eui-jong Lee: My team and I are working on a variety of game modes and enjoyable content for users of The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure. Please stay tuned for more details, which will be revealed shortly after the official launch.
Is there anything else you would like to share with The Seven Deadly Sins fans and future IDLE Adventure players?
Eui-jong Lee: The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure has casual graphics and the entire story of the original series, making the game easier to understand and more accessible for those who are not familiar with the original manga of The Seven Deadly Sins.
We are continuously working hard to develop fun and amusing games, and we hope users will enjoy playing The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure.
Thank you so much for your time, Eui-jong Lee!
The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure is coming soon to Android and iOS worldwide.
