Reiji Miyajima initially wrote Rent-A-Girlfriend in 2017. Kodansha has been publishing the series ever since, with a spin-off, Rent-A-(Really Shy!)-Girlfriend, beginning in 2020. The anime first began in 2020. The new season will premiere next year. Additionally, a video game adaptation will release later this year.
