The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak – How to Get Onyx Steel

Help Van prepare for the finale.

    Published:

Players can create powerful weapons made out of Onyx Steel in The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak, similarly to Zemurian Ore in previous Trails games. However, players must meet certain criteria in the game in order to create their ultimate weapon (s).

Note: light spoilers ahead for the game’s Finale chapter.

Like Zemurian Ore, Onyx Steel is extremely rare. Players will first be introduced to Onyx Steel during the Revolution Festival in the Finale chapter of The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak.

Kukai, located in Riverside during the festival, will ask Van for 12 movie brochures in exchange for Onyx Steel. This can be easily achieved, even if you haven’t watched multiple movies throughout the course. Stanley will sell all of the movie brochures during the Revolution Festival, as noted in our Trails through Daybreak books guide.

After obtaining the first Onyx Steel, head to Giscard at the Edith Cathedral in Auber District. The character will give a rundown of the Onyx Steel’s capabilities before asking Van which party member he would like Giscard to craft a weapon for. Once the party member is chosen, you will receive your first Onyx Steel weapon and unlock the Unlimited Power trophy/achievement.

This is the only Onyx Steel weapon you can obtain before entering the Genesis Tower, the game’s final dungeon. Once in the dungeon, players may obtain up to three more Onyx Steel by fighting Alignment bosses tied to Law, Gray, and Chaos. Specifically, each boss can only be fought after achieving rank 5 for Law, Gray, and Chaos respectively.

After acquiring a new piece of Onyx Steel, Quatre will be able to craft an Onyx Steel weapon at an orbment station in the Genesis Tower.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam
