New trailer shown at the June 18 Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo announced a Nintendo Switch Sports free update is launching in summer 2024 with basketball as a playable sport. Players will be able to enjoy basketball with a variety of control options and playable modes.

Here’s an overview of the free Nintendo Switch Sports update, via Nintendo:

Basketball is coming to Spocco Square in the Nintendo Switch Sports game as a free update! Use motion controls to sink as many baskets as you can within the time limit in the solo Three-Point Challenge. If you’re looking for friendly competition, then up to four players can compete locally in Five-Streak Battle or Three-Point Contest, and you can dribble, pass and score in two-on-two matches locally or online. This free update for Nintendo Switch Sports dunks its way onto Nintendo Switch this summer.

Released this past November, the version 1.3.0 update previously introduced golf, locally and online, to Nintendo Switch Sports. Online play supports up to eight players in Survival Golf. Additionally, golf supports single Joy-Con play, and new in-game settings are available with the Nintendo Switch Sports update.

Lastly, Nintendo Switch Sports is available now for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
