Fantasian Dark Edge Trademarked in Japan

    A new trademark surfaces.

Earlier today, Mistwalker Corporation revealed Fantasian Neo Dimension, an enhanced version of the Apple Arcade title that is heading to all platforms later this year. Alongside this announcement, a new trademark for Fantasian has been approved and gone live in Japan, titled Fantasian Dark Edge. This application was filed by Mistwalker Corporation on June 10 and made public as of today, June 18. Surprisingly, this does seem like it could be unrelated to today’s announcement.

If this were some tie-in to the upcoming enhanced version of Fantasian, it would have made sense to reveal this name today. However, that did not happen. It’s possible that this is the name of a potential Fantasian sequel or upcoming DLC following Neo Dimension. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see what Hironobu Sakaguchi and Mistwalker Corp. have in store for us.

Fantasian Neo Dimension is being published by Square Enix for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Windows and Steam. Sakaguchi shared that he is working with Creative Studio 3’s Yoshi-P on this release. The Square Enix team shared a message from Sakaguchi on this release stating the following:

“FANTASIAN NEO DIMENSION has had its grand reveal, marking its comeback at SQUARE ENIX.

The strength of a digital title is that it can continue existing without deteriorating, and I wanted FANTASIAN to be an especially long-standing title.

I developed FANTASIAN thinking that it could become my final work before retiring, so it has a special place in my heart.

Having the opportunity to rebuild it at SQUARE ENIX this way and making it widely known is truly a blessing.

This title is an amalgamation of the souls of the diorama craftsmen, Uematsu compositions, and of course, the game developers. If you’d like, please do give it a try!”
