Adult Swim announced its Toonami programming block will have a new block titled Toonami Rewind, which features Dragon Ball Z Kai, Naruto, and Sailor Moon. The block premieres on May 31 with the VIZ English Dub version of Sailor Moon at 5:00 p.m. local time.
Previously, Dragon Ball Z Kai ran on Toonami this past March with a special marathon that honored the legacy of the late Akira Toriyama. These episodes aired back-to-back after the then-latest episode of Ninja Kamui. Fans who missed this marathon won’t have to worry, since Dragon Ball Z Kai will now air on Toonami with the new Toonami Rewind block.
Toonami Rewind Brings Back Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Naruto
Starting at 5:00 p.m. local time on May 31, episodes of Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and Naruto will air on the Toonami Rewind block. Moreover, the block will air for two hours every Friday. According to Toonami co-creator Jason DeMarco, the Toonami Rewind block will feature a recreated HD version of the classic Toonami packaging with older music to bring back the old vibes.
DeMarco said, “For anyone wondering- for this version of Toonami we will be using classic older Toonami music and some older packaging (mostly things that were recreated in HD for our anniversary broadcast years ago), the vibe will be “classic” Toonami! Hope you enjoy!”

The upcoming Dragon Ball Daima series is the last major anime work that Toriyama was involved in before his untimely passing. Goku, Vegeta, Supreme Kai, and the rest of the iconic crew are turned into children, prompting them to embark on a new adventure. Lastly, the new anime will air on Fuji TV this fall, just like the original Dragon Ball anime 40 years ago.
