Shinji Mikami has opened a new game studio called KAMUY, according to the official website for Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered. Mikami is one of the creators behind Shadows of the Damned alongside Goichi Suda, who’s also known as Suda51.
Mikami left Tango Gameworks in early 2023 after a near 13-year spell at the company. After Mikami’s non-compete clause expired, he teased a return to the games industry in October 2023. Updates from Mikami was scarce until news about Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered came at PAX East 2024 this week.
Shinji Mikami Opens KAMUY Studio
As spotted by Gematsu, Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered’s official website for notes that Shinji Mikami was a part of the project as a creator. The end of the creator’s description on the website reads “After leaving Tango Gameworks, he established KAMUY Inc.” Mikami has yet to publicly announced the founding of the new studio, but an official announcement appears to be imminent at this point.
Here’s what Mikami’s creator description says on the official website:
“As director and producer of the Resident Evil and The Evil Within series and more, Mikami has created numerous blockbuster hit titles. 1996 saw the release of ‘Resident Evil‘, on which he acted as director. He greatly contributed to the popularization of the survival-horror genre, and has had a major impact on the video game industry ever since.”
“In 2010, Mikami founded Tango K.K. (renamed Tango Gameworks in October of the same year after becoming part of ZeniMax Media Inc.), after which he directed and released The Evil Within. He also acted as executive producer on Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush.”
“After leaving Tango Gameworks, he established KAMUY Inc.”
Lastly, Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered is launching in 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam
