Multiple Mario Games Coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Several Game Boy classics will be available on March 12.

During a recent video commemorating MAR10 2024, Nintendo announced that three Game Boy Mario games would be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service next week. Specifically, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, and Dr. Mario will be available on the service on March 12.

Dr. Mario initially released on the Game Boy in 1990. In 1999, Nintendo released Mario Golf on the Game Boy Color. A year later, they released Mario Tennis on the same console. Both games were companion pieces to the Nintendo 64 releases of Mario Golf and Mario Tennis. They also supported a transfer pak, allowing Game Boy players to transfer characters over to the Nintendo 64 version. It is currently unknown if the NSO release will support this functionality.

In a recent video released for MAR10 day 2024 (an annual event that celebrates Mario on March 10 specifically), Nintendo confirmed three new games that would be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service. These three games are Dr. MarioMario Golf, and Mario Tennis. The three Game Boy games will be available for the owners of the basic Nintendo Switch Online plan on March 12.

The Game Boy Color versions of Mario Golf and Mario Tennis were meant to be companion pieces to the Nintendo 64 versions of the same games. As such, they supported the transfer pak: a peripheral that allowed owners of the Game Boy games to transfer special characters over to the Nintendo 64 version. At the time of writing, Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether or not the upcoming NSO releases will support the same functionality.

Alongside revealing three new NSO games, Nintendo also confirmed the release date for two highly anticipated Nintendo Switch remasters: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. The former will release on May 23 while the latter will release on June 27. Nintendo will likely reveal more about both games in the coming weeks and months.

Lastly, Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis will be available for the Nintendo Switch Online service on March 12.
