Nintendo announced that the company will be offering free Nintendo Switch repairs for fans affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake in Japan. In addition, Nintendo matches Square Enix’s 50 million yen donation to relief efforts in the area.
A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan on January 1, with casualties rising above the 200 mark. Rescue and reconstruction efforts, with valuable donations from The Pokémon Company and Square Enix helping those affected by the recent disaster. Capcom also donated 120 million yen, and Nintendo joins the list of benefactors.
Nintendo Relief Efforts for Noto Earthquake – Free Switch Repairs and Donation
A new Nintendo Support post confirms that the company donated 50 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society on January 16 (9:40 a.m. JST). This donation by Nintendo will directly support those affected by the earthquake and its aftermath in areas covered by the Japan Disaster Relief Act.
Moreover, Nintendo is offering free Nintendo Switch and hardware repairs for customers affected by the earthquake in Japan. There are a few restrictions worth noting, however. Repairs may be deemed difficult depending on the state of the hardware, and only select 3DS models may be repaired. Nintendo has a full list of hardware that is no longer accepted for repair here.
Regardless, any repairable products will be free of charge. This also applies to products that are no longer covered by warranty. Nintendo fans in Japan have until July 1, 2024 to request a repair and have the item shipped to Nintendo’s service centers in the country.
