The second cour of The Apothecary Diaries continues in episode 14, as Maomao continues her new duties as Jinshi’s servant in the outer court. In the previous episode, a strange imperial official observes Maomao from afar.
The first cour of The Apothecary Diaries anime proved to be a hit in 2023, and the anime series is back with 12 more episodes for the second cour. Maomao will surely continue to concoct new medicine and recipes, but her new role will mean that she will spend even more time with Jinshi in episode 14 and beyond.
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 14 Release Date and Time
Episode 14 of The Apothecary Diaries premieres on January 13 at 10:45 a.m. PDT / 1:45 p.m. EDT on Crunchyroll. A total of 12 episodes will be released in the second cour. By the end of the second cour, 24 episodes would have been released for the first season of The Apothecary Diaries.

What Happened in Episode 13?
The courtesans of the Verdigris House prepare Maomao for her buyer, who turned out to be Jinshi in episode 12. Maomao is reluctant to wear so much makeup for Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries episode 13, but the courtesans persuade her to do so anyways. Although Jinshi was determined to bring Maomao back, he’s somewhat reserved when she’s dolled up.
The two head back to the palace, but Maomao notices that her surroundings are different when she steps out of the carriage. Instead of moving back to the rear palace, Maomao arrives at Jinshi’s house in the outer court. Jinshi reveals that she will be working in this area to become a court lady. However, Maomao unsurprisingly fails this exam, so she’s now Jinshi’s servant.
Maomao’s new role allows her to enter and exit the palace, so she can go see her father more frequently. She can also collect herbs and other ingredients for her medicinal work more freely. Later into the episode, Maomao gets the attention of jealous women, due to her exceptional treatment under Jinshi. This doesn’t faze her, as she uses the own slander aimed toward her to her advantage.
Near the end of the episode, Maomao collects more ingredients near one of the exits of the outer court. One of the women from earlier tells Maomao to avoid this area, since it’s off limits. During this brief encounter, Maomao smells a strangely sweet scent from the woman, quickly getting her attention. The episode ends with a man observing Maomao from a distance with curiosity in his mind.
Episode 14 Preview
In The Apothecary Diaries episode 14, Lady Loulan makes her appearance as the successor to Lady Ah-Duo, the former Pure Consort of the Garnet Pavilion. Maomao also gets a new assignment that coincides with her arrival.
