One Piece EGGHEAD Arc Heading to Netflix on January 13

Another platform you can watch Luffy's latest adventure on.

Netflix has announced that the One Piece anime EGGHEAD arc, which began airing tonight, will start airing on Netflix starting next Saturday, January 13. As of now, the streaming service only has pre-time skip One Piece arcs available from East Blue up to Marineford. It will be interesting to see if the rest of the series will make it over to Netflix in the near future to allow their users to catch up.

Tonight’s episode has marked the beginning of a brand-new arc: EGGHEAD. This arc will see Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates meet up with Dr. Vegapunk, a mysterious character long teased in the manga. Currently, the EGGHEAD arc is underway in the manga, so for the time being both the anime and manga will be producing content for the same arc.

Hiroshi Kitadani was in charge of the opening, titled “A~su!” Fans of One Piece will recognize Kitadani as he sang the original opening of the show, “We Are!” and other incredible openings for the anime series, like “We Go!” and “Over the Top!” The opening video is a gorgeous creation that was directed by Megumi Ishitani, who was also responsible for directing Episode 1015. “Dear Sunrise” by Maki Otsuki is the ending for the EGGHEAD arc, which acts as the 20th ending theme of the series so far. It features Luffy and each member of his crew, with flashbacks to his first encounters with each of them and when they joined the crew. It’s a heartwarming ending that truly fits the bill as the start of the “Final Saga.”

One Piece is based on the manga of the same name written by Eiichiro Oda. It began serialization in 1997, with the anime beginning in 1999. Toei Animation has handled animation production since the start and continues to produce weekly episodes even today. In Japan, new episodes are broadcast every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM JST among TV networks. Standard One Piece anime episodes air at 9:00 PM CST on Crunchyroll, where they are simulcasted. Crunchyroll describes the series as the following:

Monkey. D. Luffy refuses to let anyone or anything stand in the way of his quest to become the king of all pirates. With a course charted for the treacherous waters of the Grand Line and beyond, this is one captain who’ll never give up until he’s claimed the greatest treasure on Earth: the Legendary One Piece!
One Piece EGGHEAD Arc is available to watch now on Crunchyroll. Netflix will begin airing the arc on January 13, 2024.
