What Happened in Frieren Episode 16? (Recap)
Frieren reunites with a friendly dwarf named Voll in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode 16. Despite his old age, Voll is capable of overpowering Stark in combat, so Frieren suggests that Voll should train him during their stay. Frieren’s group also help out the villagers and discovers that Voll became a solitary guardian of sorts. Voll reveals that he’s protecting the village in order to keep a promise to his deceased wife, but he can’t remember her voice and face anymore. Fortunately, Frieren encourages Voll to get to know the villagers, which also helps him remember his wife.
After leaving Voll’s village with Frieren, Fern, and Stark, Sein continues to ask people about his best friend. Then, Sein reveals to the group that his friend is known as the Gorilla Warrior, which is a nickname he thought of. The group finally gains a lead from a stubborn lady, but they must run some errands for her to learn about Sein’s friend. Eventually, the group learns that the Gorilla Warrior went to Tür, which is a city on the Northern Island. The city is far east of the group’s next destination, so Sein must continue to wait things out.

While waiting for the new Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode, fans can watch episodes of the Frieren mini anime. Four episodes have been released so far on TOHO Animation’s YouTube channel. Lastly, Crunchyroll’s overview of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End reads:
The mage Frieren defeated the Demon King alongside the hero Himmel’s party after a 10-year quest. Peace was restored to the kingdom. Because she is an elf, she is able to live over a thousand years. She promises Himmel and the others that she will be back to see them and then sets out on a journey by herself. Fifty years later, Frieren goes to visit Himmel and the others. She remained unchanged, but Himmel and the others have aged and only a little of their lives remain. Later, she witnesses Himmel’s death. Frieren is pained by her desire to have spent more time getting to know people. With that regret in her heart, she then goes on a journey to do just that. On her journey, she meets many people and many events await her.
