    Sonic Superstars Launch Was ‘Slightly Weaker Than Expected’ According to SEGA

    More marketing to come in November and December.

    In a recent sales earning, SEGA revealed that the launch of Sonic Superstars was “slighter weaker than expected.” However, they state that they will be increasing their marketing efforts from “November onwards.” 

    Sonic Superstars is the most recent entry in the 2D Sonic franchise. The game allows players to take control of Sonic in the series’ latest platforming title. There is also the option to play alongside friends as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.

    Sonic Superstars Available Now, Launch Trailer Released

    SEGA CEO Haruki Satomi revealed in a recent sales earnings that Sonic Superstars didn’t perform well to the company’s expectations. The game released alongside several other major releases including Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, in a statement in the sales earning, they stated the following:

    “…In reality, when Sonic IP sells the most is mainly November to December, and more than 90% of this title’s marketing cost will be spent in the Thanksgiving and holiday season from November onwards. Although in the financial results announced today, we are forecasting this title’s sales slightly weaker with the view of the status of start mentioned above, we plan to continue our marketing efforts to sell on the same level as Sonic Frontiers.”

    SEGA will likely reveal more details about their post launch plans for Sonic Superstars in the coming weeks and months. The latest Sonic entry continues the 2D iteration of the long-running series. You can learn more about the game below via the Nintendo eShop:
