On the back of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III PS5 slim bundle, a listing confirms that the detachable disc drive will require an internet connection upon setup. The new consoles will be available starting in November.
The upcoming PS5 Slim comes amid a very successful season for PlayStation. With Spider-Man 2 being Sony’s fastest-selling game of all time and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III set to release on November 10. The reason for the internet requirement is unknown at the time of writing.
PS5 Slim Disc Drive Requires Internet When Setting Up
An article for the Video Games Chronicle pointed out that the upcoming PS5 Slim states the following:
“Internet connection required to pair disc drive and PS5 console upon setup.”
It’s likely meant as a security measure against piracy and to ensure that the drive is not a third-party one. However, the servers needed to verify the license may one day be unavailable. It is unknown how Sony attempts to work around the issue.
