Arc System Works has officially released River City: Rival Showdown on consoles and PC today, October 12. As previously discussed, the new title is a remake of River City Ransom, which was first released in 2016 for the 3DS.
The release of River City: Rival Showdown marks the first time it will be available on modern home consoles. It includes tightened controls, improved backgrounds, and more quality-of-life updates. ArcSys has released more details about the now-available game.
River City: Rival Showdown Available Now
River City: Rival Showdown was released today, October 12. The game is available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch for $24.99. Moreover, a new Steam blog post was published for those who may be facing some controller connectivity issues in the PC version.
Arc System Works released a press statement revealing more details about the game:
“Arc System Works America, Inc. has released the classic 2D action game River City: Rival Showdown, now available for digital on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Players can now experience the popular fighting game in a whole new way with all new story events, battle system, characters, and more!
“Originally released in 2016 on 3DS, the remastered version includes newly added content, complete with a vigorous setting and action-packed story, including “Riki’s Story”. This unique single-player mode allows players to experience the three-day River City story from Riki’s eyes, roaming the town in his never-ending hunt to find his missing girlfriend, Mami.”
Additionally, according to the game’s Steam page, there are several ways for players to craft their own story. These include new characters and fluid dialogue that change with every choice you make. Several endings are also available, making replayability higher than ever. There’s also a multiplayer mode, “Double Dragon Duel 2023.” Players can select from a wide roster of characters to compete against others. The multiplayer mode is included at no extra cost.
Lastly, River City: Rival Showdown is available now on all consoles.
