CD Projekt Red has revealed that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has already sold 3 million copies after just one week. They also confirmed that the base game has sold twenty-five million copies.
CDPR initially released Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. Critics initially criticized it for its rushed release, game-breaking glitches, and failure to stay true to the game’s initial promise. However, CD Projekt Red recently released both Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and Update 2.0. The recent expansion and patch have completely overhauled the game’s mechanics and brought it closer to the game’s initial promise.
Cyberpunk 2077 Reaches Major Milestone
In a recent tweet, CD Projekt Red officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold twenty-five million copies. In a separate post, they revealed that its expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, reached 3 million copies within a week of its release.
The last year has been massive for those fond of the Cyberpunk franchise. Not just because of the recent expansion but because of Studio Trigger’s 2022 anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Both entries in the series have made the franchise into one that will no doubt grow bigger in the coming years. Cyberpunk 2077’s longevity is further supported by the reveal that a new Cyberpunk game and live-action project are in development.
Phantom Liberty is available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The expansion invites players to explore a brand new area exclusive to Phantom Liberty as you fight to claim your freedom while working with the Federal Intelligence Agency, or FIA. Several new characters are introduced, such as Solomon Reed, played by acclaimed actor Idris Elba. The expansion costs $29.99. On Steam, series newcomers can also purchase a package containing both the base game and Phantom Liberty for $82.78.
Lastly, Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The expansion is available exclusively on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. CD Projekt Red will likely reveal more information on the franchise’s future in the coming months.
