Haruhi Suzumiya is Getting a New Light Novel Volume

A new entry for the first time in over a decade.

The staff of the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise has confirmed that a new entry in the light novel series is in development. The new volume will be the first update to the franchise in over a decade.

Nagaru Tanigawa published the original series from 2003-2011. Yen Press has released ten volumes of the light novel in English. Over the years, several Haruhi Suzumiya adaptations have been released in the form of different manga and anime entries. At the time of writing, the franchise’s staff has not yet confirmed when the new light novel will be released.

A recent event officially announced that a new volume in the original Haruhi Suzumiya light novel is in development. They also confirmed that a new concert event based on the series will return after fifteen years. Advance ticket sales for the January 20 event will be available until October 8.

Yen Press describes the light novel series as follows:

Haruhism has seized the nation with the release of the highly successful animated series DVD that was one of the top ten bestselling anime properties in 2007. Yen Press and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish the novel and manga series back-to-back, with hardcovers of the novels with the original Japanese cover art for libraries and hardcore fans of the property.

When Haruhi Suzumiya introduces herself to Kyon by asking if he’s an alien, time traveler, or psychic, he knows his chances for a normal high school experience are ruined. Bold Haruhi takes a shine to him, and uses the force of her irrepressible personality to draft him into her club to find paranormal beings. Kyon soon discovers what she’s looking for: Haruhi herself has the power to destroy and create entire universes at her whim. But if she knew about her ability, it could spell disaster for everyone.

Lastly, Nagaru Tanigawa will publish the newest entry in the Haruhi Suzumiya series sometime in the next few years. The original light novel series is available on Yen Press. The two anime adaptations are available for viewing on Crunchyroll. The franchise’s staff will likely reveal more information on the new volume’s release date in the coming months.
