NetherRealm Studios has officially released the launch trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. The trailer revealed Reiko, the first look at gameplay for Shang Tsung, and new modes.
Mortal Kombat 1 is the long-anticipated next entry in the beloved Mortal Kombat franchise. The game will release on September 19 and will feature a wide variety of unique characters and brand-new ways to play. Tomorrow, NRS will have a Kombat Kast dedicated to the last major information about the game before it releases next week.
Mortal Kombat 1 Launch Trailer Out Now
The new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 is four minutes long and features a wide variety of information and footage for the upcoming release. For one, the trailer teases the game’s story, with Shang Tsung playing the role of the game’s antagonist. There’s also the surprise appearance of Kronika, the main villain of Mortal Kombat 11. Time will only tell what role she will end up playing in the story of MK1.
Speaking of Shang Tsung, the launch trailer shows how the fan-favorite character will play in this new entry. He has several moves that allow him to shapeshift, fire projectiles, and deal damage to his enemies up close with his claws. Fans of the character will find much to enjoy with this new incarnation of Shang Tsung.
The trailer also revealed Reiko, a Mortal Kombat ninja who first appeared in Mortal Kombat 4. From the brief footage of the character, he appears to utilize his fists and kicks to annihilate his opponents. There’s also a short snippet of footage for the new Invasion mode, a roguelike mode that forces you to navigate a character of your choice through a board game-like setup as you upgrade your character and skills. More information will be revealed on Invasion mode closer to the game’s release.

Shang Tsung will be available if you pre-order the game before it launches in two weeks. Additionally, NetherRealm Studios has also revealed the first Kombat Pack. It includes Homelander from The Boys, Omni-Man from Invincible, Peacemaker from Peacemaker, and The Suicide Squad. The pack also includes returning Mortal Kombat characters: Ermac, Quan Chi, & Takeda.
Lastly, Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19. The game will be available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more information from NRS on the game’s final roster before it launches later this month.
