During the recent Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Direct, Nintendo officially announced a new Nintendo Switch OLED “Mario Red” Edition. The console will be released on October 6, 2023.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the latest entry in the 2D Mario franchise. On August 31, a new Nintendo Direct for the game premiered, revealing more information on the upcoming title’s mechanics, characters, and world before it releases on October 20, 2023. At the end of the direct, they fully revealed the new Nintendo Switch model.
“Mario Red” Nintendo Switch OLED
The new Nintendo Switch OLED “Mario Red” edition will release on October 6, 2023. The console will be priced at $349.99. Pre-orders are available now on the official Nintendo website. The system is described as follows:
“Warp into a world of games with the Nintendo Switch™ – OLED Model: Mario Red Edition system. The system features a console, dock, and Joy-Con™ controllers all in the iconic Mario Red color. A silhouette design of Mario jumps into action on the back of the dock. Look closely, and you’ll also find some hidden coins!”
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first new 2D Mario game since New Super Mario Bros. U in 2013. The upcoming game will feature several playable characters, including Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Nabbit, Toadette, and more. Wonder will also feel a brand-new trippy environment, filled with fascinating visuals and new power-ups (such as the new Elephant power-up).
The recent Nintendo Direct confirmed that the game would also feature online play with “ghosts” of players worldwide. Wonder will also include new mechanics such as the new badge system, wonder flower, and new enemies like the hoppycats.
Lastly, Super Mario Bros. Wonder will release on October 20, 2023. The game will exclusively be available on the Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders are also available through the Nintendo eShop. The upcoming “Mario Red” Nintendo Switch Edition will release on October 6, 2023, two weeks before the launch of Wonder.
