PlayStation Portal and New Accessories Launching in 2023

Is the PlayStation's latest "portable console" up to snuff?

PlayStation has officially revealed the first details of their upcoming portable console, PlayStation Portal, formerly Project Q. The company also released more information for their new forthcoming accessories: the Pulse Elite wireless headset and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds. Pre-orders will open soon.

PlayStation Portal is the company’s answer to devices like the Steam Deck and Logitech G Cloud to some extent. It combines cloud technology with the traditional PlayStation user interface and peripherals. Alongside revealing the device’s specs, PlayStation confirmed how much it would cost.

In the recent PlayStation Blog, Hideaki Ishino, Senior VP of Platform Experience, fully detailed the PlayStation Portal. For one, the console includes the key features of the DualSense Controller, such as adaptive controllers and haptic feedback. It has an 8-inch LCD screen that supports 1080p and 60fps. The PlayStation Portal can only be used when it is connected to Wi-Fi. The ideal use is when someone wants to play the console in another room of the house.

Additionally, it does not support Bluetooth or PlayStation VR. You can use a DualSense Controller and a wired headset. However, the only Bluetooth devices it supports are new Pulse Headsets from PlayStation. The Portal will cost $199.99.

Speaking of accessories, the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore Earbuds are described as follows:

    • “Pulse Elite is our new wireless headset that offers lossless audio and comes with a retractable boom mic and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds. A charging hanger is also included with the product for a convenient charging and storage option.”
    • “Pulse Explore is our first set of wireless earbuds, providing a premium portable audio experience with dual microphones and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds. It also offers lossless audio and comes with a charging case.”

The Elite will cost $149.99, and the Explore will cost $199.99. Lastly, PlayStation will release more information on the pre-orders and release date for the PlayStation Portal, Pulse Elite, and Pulse Explore in the coming weeks and months.
