After over five years of anticipation, Starfield is almost here. The game has officially wrapped development and will release in early September. However, with the game’s release imminent, some may not know how, where, and when they’ll be able to get their hands on Starfield. Here’s an overview of everything you need to know about when you can preload and play Starfield.
What is Starfield?
Starfield is the first new franchise from Bethesda Studios in nearly twenty years. The game will allow you to explore the far reaches of space and build connections in this exciting new RPG from the mind of Todd Howard. Here’s an overview of Starfield’s story via Steam:
In the year 2330, humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets, and living as a spacefaring people. You will join Constellation – the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy – and navigate the vast expanse of space in Bethesda Game Studios’ biggest and most ambitious game.
When Does Preloading for Starfield Open?
Players will be able to preload Starfield officially on two different dates. Those who own an Xbox Series X|S and have pre-ordered the game will be able to pre-download the game tomorrow, August 17.
If you’ve pre-ordered the game on PC, pre-downloads do not open until August 30. The game will take up approximately 125 GB of storage, so clear your hard drive/solid-state drive as needed.
When and Where Will Starfield Be Available?
Starfield will release on September 6, 2023. The game will be exclusively available on Steam and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, you can purchase the game for free if you have Xbox Game Pass.
Lastly, if you upgrade your standard edition of the game to the premium edition, you’ll get access to the game five days early. You’ll also get skins, a digital artbook and soundtrack, and access to the Shattered Space story expansion when it releases.
