Joy Boy has returned! Monkey D. Luffy recently entered his Gear 5 (fifth) form in Episode 1071 of the One Piece anime, and the incredible fight against Kaido continues in Episode 1072. The long-running anime series is back on a weekly schedule without production delays for now.
Luffy was seemingly defeated after a hard-fought battle against Kaido in One Piece Episode 1070, but he rose back up with the power of Gear 5 in Episode 1071. Kaido is bewildered by the immense power of this transformation as Luffy is seemingly overcome with joy with each step he takes. In the new episode, the comedic battle will continue with Luffy in his peak.
One Piece Episode 1072 Release Date
Episode 1072 of the ongoing One Piece anime will air on Sunday, August 13 at 9:30 a.m. JST across Japanese broadcasting networks. The new episode is titled “The Ridiculous Power! GEAR5 in Full Play”. Crunchyroll is simulcasting the popular One Piece anime series with English subs, so fans can expect Episode 1072 to release at 10:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, August 12. Viewers may enjoy the latest episode of One Piece with Japanese audio with English, Spanish (LATAM and Spain) or Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. However, the English dub is nearly a hundred episodes behind, so fans shouldn’t expect Episode 1072 to receive English voice-overs for a while.

After Luffy activates his Gear 5 powers in Episode 1071, the ground becomes bouncy, and his techniques become extremely whimsical. Luffy is so powerful that Kaido seemingly becomes a joke, but Kaido manages to fight back with respectable tenacity. However, attacks don’t really seem to affect Luffy all too much, so Kaido’s efforts appear to be in vain so far. In One Piece Episode 1072, fans will witness Luffy’s peak as he seemingly brings his full Gear 5 power on display.
