Go Nagai has officially announced that a new anime in the world of UFO Robo Grendizer, titled Grendizer U, will air in 2024. The announcement comes alongside the release of the series trailer.
UFO Robo Grendizer is the third entry in Nagai’s Mazinger mecha franchise. Titled Grendizer, Nagai released the original anime in 1975. The upcoming Grendizer U anime is described as a reboot of the original anime.
Grendizer U Anime Details
The staff of Grendizer U includes:
- Chief Director: Mitsuo Fukuda
- Known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam Seed
- Executive Director: Go Nagai
- Writer: Ichiro Okouchi
- Known for his work on Code Geass and Gundam: The Witch from Mercury
- Character Designer: Yoshiyuki Sadamoto
- Known for his work on Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Lead Composer: Kōhei Tanaka
- Known for his work on One Piece
The anime’s official Twitter account has revealed the character designs for Duke Fleed, Koji Kabuto, and the main mecha, Grendizer. Check out their designs in the gallery above. ANN describes the original anime is described as follows:
“Duke Fleed is a survivor of the Vega Star, raised by Dr. Umon as his adoptive son, and known as Daisuke Umon on Earth. Years after his arrival, he’s faced with the threat of King Vega and his army, who want to conquer the Earth. With his friends Koji and Hikaru (and later his kid sister Maria Grace), Duke decides to fight back using his best weapon—the almighty Grendizer.”
