Limited Run Games has officially announced that the Gex Trilogy is now in development. A release date is unknown, but the collection will feature the original Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko.
Gex is a cult-classic platformer initially released in 1994. The developers, Crystal Dynamics, originally released the game on the 3DO. Later ports and games were released on the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. More information about the trilogy will be released soon.
The Gex Trilogy
The Gex Trilogy will be remastered using Limited Run’s Carbon Engine. The game will be developed alongside Square Enix, as Square still owns the rights to the Gex property. It is currently unknown when the game will be released and if it’ll feature any quality-of-life updates.
The first Gex is described on GOG.com as follows:
His uncle modeled for a yuppie shirt logo, his Dad blew up in a NASA rocket, his busy Mom raised him in front of the tube. Meet GEX – a wisecracking gecko with a major attitude. With his blazing tongue, battering tail, and sharp wit, this outrageous reptile is ready to kill TV and movie rejects in a sidesplitting game of awesome intensity!
- Scramble up, over, and across five worlds: Graveyard World, Kung Fu World, Cartoon World, Jungle World, and Rez’s Nerve Center
- Includes hundreds of TV and movie one-liners from comedian Dana Gould
- See GEX hurl fireballs, scramble up buildings with his suction-cup hands and feet, tail-slap foes, and inhale power-up bugs for extra energy
Gex 2 and Gex 3 were both 3D platformers during the height of the genre. Fans and newcomers alike will undoubtedly enjoy the remastered collection of the cult-classic platforming franchise.
While the Gex Trilogy‘s release date is unknown, Limited Run Games confirmed that the game will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Fans should expect to see more information about the trilogy, including an official release date to be announced soon.
