Marvel and Insomniac have officially confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have a San Diego Comic-Con 2023 panel. The panel will be on July 20, 2023. Insomniac has not yet confirmed if a new trailer will be shown at the event. However, considering the game will release in October, an official story trailer seems inevitable.
Spider-Man 2 is the long-anticipated follow-up to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, respectively. Initially announced in 2021, Spider-Man 2 is one of the first games to be completely exclusive to the PlayStation 5. Fans should expect to hear more information about the upcoming game before its Autumn release.
What to Expect From the Spider-Man 2 Panel
The “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Symbiotic Relationships” panel will feature several Insomniac developers. These include creative director Bryan Intihar, game director Ryan Smith, and senior art director Jacinda Chew. The conference will also include several actors from the game, including the actors behind Peter Parker and Miles Morales, Yuri Lowenthal, and Nadji Jeter. The actress behind Mary Jane Watson, Laura Bailey, and the actor behind Venom, Tony Todd, will also appear.
According to Marvel’s official website, the upcoming panel will feature a behind-the-scenes look at Insomniac Games’ take on the monstrous Venom and how the symbiote plays a role in the sequel…” The conference will begin at 2:30 PM PDT on July 20 and will be located at the famed Hall H, home to many of the most significant announcements in the comic book, movie, and gaming industries to date. With such an esteemed pedigree and a panel that promises to reveal more about Spider-Man 2, fans should expect to see a brand-new trailer and more announced on July 20.
The “Anti-Spider-Man”
Just a day before the official panel’s beginning, Entertainment Weekly posted more information about the upcoming game and its central antagonist. They revealed more details about their design philosophies for Venom’s distorted spider symbol and how Venom serves as the “anti-Spider-Man” and forces the titular characters to grow as they face the weight of their inner darkness.
In a statement, Intihar confirmed that “For us, Venom is the host plus the symbiote. You don’t get Venom without both of them being bonded together. What [Tony Todd] represents is that bond. I think, if anything, casting Tony made us feel more confident in the character’s visual design.” Venom will undoubtedly become one of the series’ most captivating characters.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will release on October 20, 2023. At launch, it will be exclusively available on PlayStation 5. The game will utilize several new mechanics, such as the symbiote suit and web wings from the comics, and take full advantage of the PS5’s hardware. Fans should expect to see more information revealed about Spider-Man 2 in the months leading up to release.
