Bokeh Game Studio announced a new “Dev Diary” series of videos will be published alongside the Golden Hour series, revealing more insight into Slitterhead alongside gameplay. Slitterhead will be the studio’s first horror game, and the first Dev Diary video provides a look into the game’s pre-alpha state.
In the new Slitterhead Dev Diary video, project manager Takuro Kanno explains his development role. Kanno’s current role involving building tests, creating surveys, and working with partner companies that prepare test venues. The project manager analyzes test results and shares the reports and feedback to the main Slitterhead development team at Bokeh Game Studio. Some of Kanno’s other tasks include project management on cutscenes and building the QA team. Feedback gathered from testers is important for developing the final product and making important adjustments.
According to Kanno, a user test panel for Slitterhead includes roughly 10 to 20 players. Kanno’s area of focus is qualitative analysis, so he places emphasis on feedback from each individual player rather than the collective. Additionally, the team focuses on the number of sessions and opinions from the testers in order to tweak Slitterhead accordingly. One of the main challenges involves allocating remaining time to the number of sessions available for testing. The main goal ultimately lies in improving gameplay elements and features for the final release.
Slitterhead Dev Diary – Pre-Alpha Gameplay Footage
Further into the Dev Diary video, Bokeh Game Studio shares pre-alpha gameplay footage, which is not a representation of the final product. The footage shows third-person combat with a character harnessing blood and using a machete-like weapon against a grotesque enemy. Weapon, health, and gauges may be seen in the user interface. Additional footage shows the tester being able to control a dog in a hallway.

Slitterhead is currently in development with director Keiichiro Toyama at the helm. This is Toyama’s first project since leaving Sony’s Japan Studio in 2020, and it’s Bokeh Game Studio’s first project ever. Moreover, Toyama is joined by former colleagues from Japan Studio, sharing the same vision for an up-and-coming game studio. Platforms and a release date for Slitterhead have not been announced.
