Who is Masayoshi Soken?
Masayoshi Soken was born January 10, 1975 in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. His family moved back to Japan where he would later major in Chemistry at Tokyo University of Science. This would be a profession he would not pursue as he would join Konami, then later Square, in various sound roles.
During 2020, Soken had been privately battling cancer. He even made some of his composition contributions while in the hospital. He announced that he was in remission publicly at a Final Fantasy XIV Digital Fan Festival.

What Has He Worked on Previously?
Soken has been everything from a sound designer to a sound effects creator. However, he has been settling into the composer role for nearly 20 years. One his first soundtracks to gain recognition was Mario Hoops 3 on 3.
Soken’s biggest contributions have been to Final Fantasy XIV. He has been the Composer and Sound Director of every expansion since A Realm Reborn. This has resulted in collaboration with other legendary Composers such as Nobuo Uematsu. Soken has composed hundreds of songs and keeps going! Final Fantasy XVI is sure to impress and the demo has proven that Soken was an excellent choice for composer.
