Final Fantasy XVI Team Recommends Turning Brightness Up for Non-HDR Displays

A nice suggestion from the dev team.

    Published:

Today during the Final Fantasy XVI Special Pre-launch Livestream, the developers focused on the game’s use of HDR. There was a lot of feedback from the demo that players without HDR displays struggled to see all of the visuals. This is due to the game being developed to best fit HDR displays.

The team has issued suggestions for those who may choose to play Final Fantasy XVI without HDR displays. Their message about this topic can be found below (Thanks to Twitter user Dreamboum for the captures).

“Even if you have an SDR-only display, changing its brightness settings can make a big difference. Try adjusting your monitor’s settings while playing the demo. If your TV comes with a “Game Mode” setting, don’t forget to switch over to it.”

“We’ve designed the visuals of FFXVI so that you can still make out detail even on an SDR display. However, it will look darker than on an HDR display. If you think it’s too dark, try increasing your monitor’s brightness!”

Final Fantasy XVI is being developed by Creative Business Unit III, led by Director Hiroshi Takai and Producer Naoki Yoshida. CBUIII is behind the critically acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy XIV, which continues to grow each year.

Clive Rosfield is the main protagonist of the title, voiced by Ben Starr. He is the only playable character, as the game has a high action focus, or at least more so than previous Final Fantasy titles. Combat design has been directed by Ryota Suzuki, who was a key member of the Devil May Cry 5 and Dragon’s Dogma combat design teams.

A demo is available now for free on the PlayStation 5 store. Players can access two different segments in it, one of which being the Prologue demo and the other the Eikonic Challenge. You can learn all about the demo by checking out the posts below.
