The first gameplay demo for Star Wars Outlaws was just revealed at the Ubisoft Forward. First announced on June 11th at the Xbox Showcase, Outlaws is the first-ever open-world Star Wars game. Massive Entertainment, the creators of The Division, and LucasFilm Games, will be developing the upcoming release. Here is an overview of everything the gameplay demo revealed.

The gameplay demo for Star Wars Outlaws showed off a mix of traditional third-person stealth and shooting mechanics. Players can sneak around enemies, knock them out, and use the environment to evade detection. When stealth isn’t enough, however, the player is thrown into a combat scenario. Gunplay is reminiscent of most third-person shooters. Guns have different ammo types for different situations, there’s a Red Dead Redemption-esque deadeye mode, and there’s even vehicular combat.

Additionally, the trailer also reveals space combat and traversal. Players can seamlessly go from land to the planet’s atmosphere and use their ship to travel across the galaxy. The trailer hints that Tatooine will be one of the many playable locations, as well as other famous series locations.

The gameplay demo also hinted briefly at RPG mechanics. For example, the protagonist Kay finds herself negotiating with an imperial broker. After some dialogue, the player can choose to bribe the imperial or not bribe her. Both have consequences. The demo showcases what happens if you don’t bribe the imperial. A bounty is placed on your head and you’re briefly pursued by both stormtroopers and bounty hunters.

This is just one of the many systems that the game uses that seperates it from other Star Wars games such as Fallen Order.
