Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.x Series is Nearing Its ‘Climax’

    Pandaemonium nears its end.

Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida reveals the 6.x series of patches for the critically acclaimed online RPG is nearing its “climax”. Patch 6.4: The Dark Throne will be pivotal to the main scenario going forward into patch 6.5 and the inevitable patch 7.0.

Patch 6.x Series Approaches its Climax

In a new interview with Game Watch, Yoshida confirms the 6.x series will be heading into its climax soon. The epilogue introduced with the release of patch 6.0 and the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker expansion is nearing its conclusion as well. Additionally, the story depicted in the Pandaemonium raid series will end soon with the Anabaseios layer in Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4: The Dark Throne. After revealing this information, Yoshida wants fans to think about what patch 6.4 will mean for Final Fantasy XIV going forward.

The Japanese title for Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4: The Dark Throne is “The Throne’s Criminal”, implying that someone is a “criminal” and committed a “crime” according to Yoshida. The producer wants fans to think about what this means while imagining what may come in Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.5, which does not have an official title yet. Players will soon discover the meaning of the title in patch 6.4 releasing in late May 2023.

    May 12 Live Letter

After Golden Week comes to a close, Square Enix will host Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXVII on May 12. Yoshida will reveal more details about Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.4: The Dark Throne and miscellaneous updates during the live stream. A release date for patch 6.4 is expected to be revealed in Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXVII.

Final Fantasy XIV will enter a new era once the patch 6.x series finally concludes. The popular online RPG is expected to receive a massive graphical overhaul in patch 7.0, and the new patch series will be accompanied by a new expansion. Further details regarding the future expansion were not revealed, however.

Lastly, Final Fantasy XIV and the latest expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, are available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
