Many missions in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will provide the player with AI-controlled companions to fight alongside you. This is great for beginners who may feel a bit intimidated by the game’s difficulty. It allows for some pressure to be taken off of you in boss fights and tough enemy encounters. However, what about players who wish to experience Wo Long completely solo? Fortunately, there is a way to make your AI companions go away and enjoy the challenge of playing by yourself.
The Item That Will Let You Play Wo Long Solo
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to play Wo Long solo from the get-go. The first mission requires you to bring the Blindfolded Boy along with you. However, you will probably barely notice he’s there anyways, outside of the lines of dialogue you will hear. You will be able to part ways with your companions as soon as you reach the game’s second mission, “Two Chivalrous Heroes”.
Once you get there, you will soon activate a cutscene that introduces you to Zhao Yun. After he joins you, open your inventory and look for an item called “Willow Branch”. Simply select it and choose “Use”. You’ll notice that any companions that were present before are gone, and you are now playing Wo Long completely solo. You will have to keep using the Willow Branch every time the game gives you companions by default. However, Wo Long does contain some missions that have you playing solo by default.
Why Does Wo Long Give You Companions by Default?
It’s mostly for story purposes. However, it’s also probably to incentivize beginners to make use of them. In addition, it’s worth noting that playing with companions can increase their Oath Level. Once you reach the maximum level for a companion, you will be able to use their equipment. So, it might be worth using companions on your initial playthrough of Wo Long. However, if you prefer the challenge, you have the option to play solo.
