It seems that the release date of a long-awaited title could be closer than any of us ever predicted. The release date of Pikmin 4 has been listed on the retailer Game Explorers as May 26, 2023.
For those not aware of Nintendo’s current slate, a certain game is already scheduled for May. That game is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which is the sequel to Breath of the Wild. Arguably one of the most anticipated titles of all time, Tears of the Kingdom was originally scheduled for 2022 before it was delayed into this May. This certainly makes things interested with this supposed release date for Pikmin 4, as it would mean that Nintendo plans to release two highly anticipated sequels within a few weeks of each other.
It will be very interesting to see if anything comes of this. The listing only adds more fuel to the fire of a supposed Nintendo Direct, which is currently rumored for this week. If this does end up being the correct date, we would not put it past Nintendo to pull something like this.
There is another possibility we need to address, however, and that is the small chance Tears of the Kingdom gets delayed. While incredibly unlikely, there is a chance Pikmin 4 was slotted into this release date to still give Nintendo a May title. We think most likely that Nintendo just has two games releasing in May, which will be accompanied by a long marketing cycle for Tears of the Kingdom.
If you’re interested in the Pikmin series, you’re in luck. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is available on Nintendo Switch for those looking to get into the series before the fourth title. Pikmin 4 is currently scheduled to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023.
