Is Modern Warfare II Playable on Steam Deck?

With Modern Warfare II just about to release worldwide, many fans are curious if the Modern Warfare II is playable on Steam Deck. The title is the first to come to Steam in many years, meaning that game should be accessible on Steam Deck.

Is Modern Warfare II Playable on Steam Deck?

Unfortunately, Modern Warfare II is not playable on Steam Deck out of the box. This is due to the anti-cheat system, that requires Windows to run. Fortunately for Steam Deck users though, this does mean that if Windows is running on Steam Deck, the game can be ran.

Players can quite easily install Windows onto Valve’s handheld in just a few steps. For a detailed look at this, check out this video on how to install Windows on a Steam Deck. Many Steam Deck players have done this and reported nothing but great things. While it will take up some of your storage, the payoff may be well worth it for some players.

As for how Modern Warfare II will perform on Steam Deck, the game should easily be able to run at 60fps or more. The console is quite powerful despite its size, and especially if the settings are tweaked right players should be able to get great performance out of the handheld. Since the game is not available on Nintendo Switch, this will be the only handheld users can play Modern Warfare II on.

For those who pre-ordered, MWII has had campaign early access for the past week across all platforms. Multiplayer will unlock on October 28th alongside the game’s official release, and Warzone 2.0 launches in just a few weeks from now.

Modern Warfare II will release tomorrow, October 28th, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Battle.net and Steam. Stay tuned to Final Weapon for our review of the title, coming soon!
