US NPD results for August 2022 reveal PS5 was the best selling platform of the month in unit sales and dollar sales.
PS5 also leads in total dollar sales for 2022 thus far while Nintendo Switch leads in unit sales for the year. The NPD Group also revealed hardware dollar sales for games grew 14% year-to-date for August.
“Video game hardware dollar sales grew 14% when compared to a year ago, to $375 million, helped by improved supply of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles,” NPD Group executive director Mat Piscatella said. “Year-to-date hardware spending declined by 4% to $2.9 billion.”
This past July, Switch was the best selling console of the month in unit sales while PS5 led in dollar sales.
