Masahiro Sakurai recently shared on Twitter that he’s finally caught up with some of his former colleagues at HAL Laboratory. It’s been almost 20 years since he left HAL Laboratory, but his relationship with the developers is still firm as if he’s never left. Masahiro Sakurai had a really fun time catching up with them through an online meeting.
Sakurai finished up work for Super Smash Bros Ultimate back in October 2021. The final DLC character was Sora from Kingdom Hearts, serving as the crossover of all crossovers. It was a dream come true for Square Enix and Nintendo fans alike. The Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece collection for Switch was also announced to celebrate Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary.
Although Sakurai did not confirm his next project, it’s safe to assume he will likely work on a new game at some point. Catching up with HAL Laboratory could be a part of his next endeavor, but it’s best left up to speculation for now. Many fans eagerly await Sakurai’s next game and hope it could be anything from a new IP to Kid Icarus. Sakurai is regularly active on Twitter and those curious may follow his journey here.
HAL Laboratory’s latest game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, is available now for Switch worldwide. Kirby and the Forgotten surpassed 2.65 million copies sold as of March 31st.
