    Switch surpasses 3DS lifetime sales within Japan

    A brief Famitsu sales update via David Gibson confirms the Switch surpassed 3DS lifetime sales of 24.6 million in Japan. The Switch surpassed the sales milestone in just 5 years out in the market. In comparison to Switch, the 3DS reached 24.6 million after 10 years of being available in the Japanese market.

    Nintendo Switch Sports debuted at 190K retail units sold in Japan as Switch continues to dominate the gaming market. Recently, the Switch surpassed PS4 lifetime sales within the US market. Nintendo’s earnings release for fiscal year 2022 arrives on May 10th. The company is expected to share new information regarding plans for 2023. The sales forecast for the current year, fiscal year 2023, is set at 20 million Switch units sold.

    Semiconductor shortages continue to affect popular consoles worldwide such as Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Desktop GPUs were also heavily affected, but prices are trending downward as GPU stock continues to improve. In March 2022, Switch led US NPD hardware sales while Xbox Series X|S led in dollar sales. The PS5 came in 3rd across both categories during March 2022.
