Digimon Survive was reworked due to development team changes, story & game details revealed

During Digimon Con 2022, producer Kazumasa Habu shared an update about Digimon Survive. Habu apologizes for the lack of information and updates regarding the upcoming strategy RPG. Development has taken longer than anticipated originally due to changes in the development team. This lead to uncertainty for the project and reworking of the game. As a result, the game receive multiple internal delays as the new team caught up and progressed further with development. The announcement of a release date will have to wait a bit longer according to Habu. The team is still deciding on an internal release date to plan toward.

However, Habu shared some interesting new details about what fans can expect in Digimon Survive! Players have 4 difficulty options: very easy, easy, normal and hard. The game features 113 Digimon and 3 routes to play through. Specific Digimon are tied to each route and the story takes on a “darker” theme compared to past Digimon games. In addition, the game’s story is told through visual novel style sections of dialogue between battles. It’s roughly 70% text adventure and 30% combat according to Habu. Digimon Survive features voice acting throughout parts of the main scenario, but not in the entire game.

The story features 12 chapters and player decisions determine the route they take. For instance, it’s possible for important characters to die in the route. Each route is around 40 hours long in length. Once a player completes their first route, New Game Plus unlocks with transferable data to the new playthrough. Players can expect stronger Digimon and better gear to pursue. Overall, players can expect around 80 – 110 hours of playtime from the new strategy RPG. Lastly, Digimon Survive is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
