Rumor: Nvidia to reveal RTX 3080 12 GB GPU on January 11th

According to Wccftech, Nvidia is planning to announced a new RTX 3080 12 GB GPU on January 11th. The rumor states that Nvidia were originally planning to reveal it at CES 2022 but plans were changed. This new 12 GB variant of the RTX 3080 has a total bandwidth of 912 GB/s, a roughly 20% increase thanks to the wider memory bus. In terms of gaming performance, it seems like the RTX 3080 12 GB GPU is right in between the RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti. The 12 GB card also features a slightly increased cuda core count of 8960 compared to the 10 GB model’s 8704. Additionally, Wccftech claims that the 12 GB card also has increased TMUs/ROPS and tensor/RT cores.

Nvidia looks to release multiple cards this year such as the RTX 3050 and RTX 3090 Ti. However, the company faces scrutiny due to the pandemic and semiconductor shortage causing GPU stock to be very limited. It’s expected that new GPUS such as the 3050 will not be available at MSRP and will be in limited quantities. We hope Nvidia gets these new cards in the hands of PC players who’ve been waiting months for that next stock allocation to finally arrive. Lastly, rumors like this should be taken with a grain of salt until confirmation comes from Nvidia.
