Sony is investing in external Japanese development in Tokyo

    Published:

According to PlayStation Studios’ Hermen Hulst, Sony is investing into the Japanese gaming industry in Tokyo. The external Japanese development team in Tokyo is getting investments from Sony and Hulst says “Japanese games are core to SIE’s identity”. This is in spite of rumors saying Sony is moving toward a western-focused approach with game development. Hulst adds by saying Sony is “in some ways very much a Japanese company” and part of “our heritage”. Sony’s external development team in Tokyo also worked with From Software and Kojima Productions. Hulst also mentions Team Asobi and Polyphony Digital which have various studios in Japan.

“Japanese development is something that we love… I think it’s such a core part of the PlayStation family, that I can’t ever see us shy away from Japanese or even Asian development”

With over 25 games in development at PlayStation, we are bound to see some premiere titles coming out of Japan soon. Half of those games in development are also new IPs. In the meantime, stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news and updates!
