Touhou LostWord is based on the worldwide hit Touhou Project, thus making it a Niiji-Sousaku work, a Japanese term used in reference to media that derive character and story elements from original sources. In the case of Touhou Project, the franchise has amassed a huge following since its inception by Team Shanghai Alice in the 90’s, particularly gaining worldwide recognition for its contributions to the bullet hell gaming genre. In almost every reiteration, fans follow the adventures of shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei and magician Marisa Kirisame as they venture out alongside a huge cast of characters to solve peculiar incidents ravaging their world of Gensokyo. Touhou LostWord officially joins the franchise having received approval for an overseas release by its original creator, Team Shanghai Alice.
Touhou LostWord introduces a new mystery for Reimu, Marisa, and the rest of the cast to unravel. Words are mysteriously disappearing and threatening the stability of Gensokyo, and it is up to you to aid the characters in restoring the world to its former self. Players can strategize different tactics by forming diverse teams of characters, each possessing unique abilities and spell cards used to engage in all-out exciting bullet battles!
Accompanied by over a hundred illustrators, professional voice acting, and an enchanting soundtrack, Touhou LostWord provides a fresh take to the franchise while still honoring the roots of its universe. Famed singer Ito Kanako, known for her various performances in hit anime titles, provides the vocals to the game’s opening song, “Lost Word Chronicle”, which has garnered over 5 million views on YouTube. Following launch, fans can further enjoy the franchise’s musical elements through the Touhou LostWord Music Video Project, a collaborative effort between anime vocalists, Touhou circles, and other beloved industry artists.
