Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa: no plans to announce a new Switch model, cites increasing demand and new Switch bundles to draw more consumers

Nintendo is on a serious roll with the Switch and the system is already surpassing 80 million units worldwide. According to CEO Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo has no plans to announce a new Switch model as the console reaches its highest sales ever in a year. The increasing demand, new Switch bundles like the Red & Blue Mario Switch and upcoming games will draw in more consumers. With the expansion of the installed base, the growth rate of Switch also grows in North America, Japan and Europe. The company has expanded sales in Asia too as the console made its debut in China with a successful start. The strong sales are also due in part to evergreen titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons surpassing 30 million sold each.

Furukawa further states that Nintendo “will continue to create opportunities that lead to a purchase” of Switch consoles. With a new Switch model seemingly ruled out for now, Nintendo is looking to push new bundles and software to continue driving hardware sales. The Switch is already breaking milestones and many are expecting it to break 100 million within a year or two. With upcoming games like Monster Hunter Rise, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and unannounced titles, the Switch is sure to sell increasingly well.
