Add Microsoft to the list of companies that have bowed out of the Game Developers Conference (GDC) over the fears of the Coronavirus epidemic.
In a statement posted on Microsoft’s Game Stack Blog. The company confirmed that it would indeed skip GDC.
“After a close review of guidance by global health authorities and out of an abundance of caution, we’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw from participating at Game Developers Conference 2020 in San Francisco. The health and safety of players, developers, employees, and our partners around the world is our top priority. Especially as the world is experiencing growing public health risks associated with coronavirus (COVID-19),” it stated.
Furthermore, it states that the team will have digital-only events in its place during the same week as GDC.
Microsoft joins companies such as Sony and FaceBook gaming in skipping GDC. In part due to the fear of Coronavirus. It has also affected this year’s PAX East, as Sony has notably pulled out that event as well.
