Square Enix is taking a different approach to game development as next-gen consoles are coming later this year. The company stated that they will not make exclusive next-gen games until “somewhat farther down the road.” This means that players should expect their upcoming games to release on current platforms as well as next-gen, but not exclusive to next-gen consoles. Here’s a quote from their latest financial briefing, courtesy of Gematsu:

Q: Could you share your thinking on the development of new titles for current- and next-generation game consoles going forward?

The next-generation consoles will have backward compatibility, so we plan for the time being to make our new titles available for both current and next-generation consoles. It will therefore be somewhat farther down the road that we release titles exclusively for the next-generation consoles.
